Soccer and authoritarianism ; Fútbol y autoritarismo
Historically, authoritarian regimes have been present for long periods in different parts of the world, these governments are mainly characterized by concentrating all the power of the State and personalizing the authority of the government. Likewise, authoritarianism stands out for the construction of control mechanisms that aim to control and subjugate the population, either through repression or social manipulation (Linz, 1975). These mechanisms have been applied in various spheres of public life, particularly, this paper will delve into sports, more specifically the relationship between authoritarianism and soccer. ; Históricamente los regímenes autoritarios han estado presentes por largos periodos de tiempo en diferentes partes del mundo, estos gobiernos se caracterizan principalmente por concentrar todo el poder del Estado y personalizar la autoridad del gobierno. Asimismo, los autoritarismos se destacan por la construcción de mecanismos de control que tienen como objetivo controlar y subyugar a la población, ya sea por medio de la represión o la manipulación social (Linz, 1975). Estos mecanismos se han aplicado en diversas esferas de la vida pública, particularmente, este escrito ahondará en el deporte, más concretamente en la relación del autoritarismo con el fútbol.
